Baby chicks are “straight run” (unsexed) and will be between 1 day old and 4 weeks. Barred Rock chicks are dark gray to black, with some white patches on their head and body.
 
The Barred Rock (Plymouth Rock) is a Heritage Breed chicken that has been a backyard favorite for years. It is a hardy “dual-purpose” bird (good for egg production and meat). Due to their docile nature they also make great pets. They are prolific layers of large brown eggs and are cold hardy with great production even in the winter.
